Jackie,
What an encouraging take on the news of Jayson Blair's newest occupation. We must all be grateful for the second, third and fourth (and so on) chances that come our way --- or that we can take the power to create for ourselves --- and we must seize them and do try to put them to good use. Your blog post is a welcome reminder of that!

In February, 7,100 Starbucks stores nationwide closed for three hours so workers could learn to make "the perfect drink," because the company had created new standards for quality and wanted to retain its status as a leader in the beverage industry.

If Starbucks can invest time and money – and even risk some short-term profit – into making itself more profitable, why can’t you do the same for yourself?

The economy is at sea. Are you feeling adrift, too?

Perhaps some career coaching can help you reach your own goals.

A coach can help you:

• Better manage your current situation, while you plan your next step
• Outline your goals and map out a strategy to meet them.
• Strike a balance between your job and your life outside of work
• Give yourself the gift of guidance at a time when others on whom you have depended are too preoccupied to provide it.

Right now, make a list of the things that get your juices flowing. Then ask yourself what you can see yourself doing as a vocation, as well as an avocation?

Focus is the first step in coaching. Where you go is up to you.

You can stay in a rut, or start building the future you want. Aren't you worth it?
